LaVon Featherstone: A Woman of Many Talents

LaVon Featherstone is truly a woman of many talents, but perhaps what shines through most is her heart for people, her love for books, and her passion for helping others bring their dreams to life.

For over 20 years, LaVon has been a dedicated entrepreneur, creating opportunities and opening doors for aspiring writers who dream of becoming published authors. Her love of books and storytelling has inspired her to pour her heart, energy, and experience into helping writers navigate the publishing journey. Through her company, Semaj Publishing—named after her father, with his name spelled backward—LaVon has created much more than a publishing company. She has created a family.

Those who begin as clients often become so much more. They become part of what LaVon affectionately calls the “Semaj Family.” She believes in walking alongside her writers, holding their hands through the process, encouraging them, answering their questions, and celebrating with them from the beginning of their journey to the moment they hold their finished book in their hands.

LaVon is also a published author in her own right, with 15 books to her name. She understands firsthand the excitement, challenges, fears, and fulfillment that come with bringing a story from an idea to a completed book. That personal experience allows her to connect with her authors in a special way and reminds them that they never have to walk the journey alone.

Born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey, LaVon grew up in the Jersey City school system and continued her education in her hometown, earning a degree in Sociology from New Jersey City University. Her natural desire to help and encourage others led her to work as a counselor and to become involved in programs that supported students and aspiring writers.

Over the years, LaVon’s passion and creativity have opened the door to many different ventures. She has continued to expand her work through LF Management Group, providing services that include web design and graphic design. Through Cassi Books, she offers authors a platform to promote and sell their books and products. Through Featherstone Media, she provides video and audio editing as well as production services.

While LaVon wears many hats, the heart behind everything she does remains the same: bringing people together, creating opportunities, and helping others see the possibilities within themselves. She believes that business is stronger when people work together. In her words, when we work together, we are able to see the bigger picture because each of us is a piece of the puzzle.

LaVon’s commitment to people extends far beyond her professional work. She also spearheads Women, The Heartbeat of the Community, an organization dedicated to bringing women’s issues to the forefront and creating meaningful conversations around the experiences, challenges, and concerns of women and young ladies of all ages.

Perhaps LaVon should affectionately be called “Fearless Featherstone.” She approaches every project with determination, compassion, and genuine concern for the dreams of the people she serves. She does not simply complete projects—she invests in people. She listens to their visions, believes in their possibilities, and often goes above and beyond to help them reach their goals.

Her impact is not limited to New Jersey. Through the years, LaVon has connected with clients and creatives from many different places, bringing her warmth, knowledge, and expertise wherever her work takes her. And somehow, whether through a book, a conversation, a project, or a shared dream, she has a way of making people feel right at home.
